D.I.Y. Electrolysis and Home Devices
You know, I understand the nature of unwanted hair and the sincere
desire to be rid of it. I also understand the nature of being dead
broke or living nowhere near a capable operator. I have done both.
So when it comes to the D.I.Y. electrologist, I really do sympathize.
The problem is that as I write this, I am still fuming from a client
who was giving me hell for the prices that I charge and in nearly
I have had this run-in many times in the past. I worked on a client
in electrolysis school who came there because she could get work done
cheap. As it was near the end of the day, we walked out to the parking
lot together and darned if she didn’t get into a new Maseratti,
an expensive Italian sports car.
What the heck is going on, when you scar yourself permanently in
order to save money for stereo gear, computer stuff (go, geeks!)
cameras and cars?
And yet. One acquaintance did the most wonderful job on herself
after attending electrolysis school, buying a machine and doing
her own work. However, she was a freely admitted over-achiever.
So, a review of home devices must be in order, for those of you
desperately in true need.
Tweezer devices, utilizing RF or galvanic electricity. Some with
creams or gels, - They don’t work.
Home Galvanic units with battery operation and enclosed needles.
Yes, they work. One client will always be wearing makeup to cover
how WELL it worked. Using it is not easy, comfortable or painless.
The job is mind-numbingly slow and needles are too big and the operator
is clueless, even after reading the instruction manual. Note: The
instructions on the amount of galvanic you need to do the job are
wrong, wrong, wrong…….You get the quality you pay for.

Transdermal contactors, plates or similar devices: Theory is that a conductive
gel will make the electricity travel down the hair shaft and
“kill” the hair. Nope. Re-read my section on needles
to find out why. Save your money for the new Porsche.
Home Laser Electrolysis units. Can’t wait for THOSE
to come out. Dr. P.T. Barnum’s Laser Emporium will most
likely carry them. Check the yellow pages.
